Product Overview
Brisbane, 1914
When fourteen-year-old Lottie Howes comes home from school, her brother Joe tells her that he’s enlisted to fight in the Great War. Lottie dreads being separated from him, but everyone says that the war will be over soon.
Once Joe has gone, Lottie does her best to stay positive, even as the newspapers paint a grim picture of how hard it is for soldiers on the front. Then she wakes in the middle of the night and feels the shadow of death fall over their house. She longs to receive a letter from Joe, telling her that he’s safe. But so many families around them are losing brothers, sons and fathers.
Waiting is the hardest thing Lottie has ever had to do.
