There are children’s books written for children, and then there are those rare books that also speak quietly to the child still living within us. Honeysuckle Gold by Penny Jaye is one of those books.
With tenderness and warmth, this beautifully written story shines gold on the brave we all hope we are but struggle to be without change.
As a chaplain, I can imagine Honeysuckle Gold finding its way into exactly the right hands at exactly the right time. A child may hear a beautiful story, while the adult reading beside them may hear something entirely different, a gentle invitation to remember, to notice, and perhaps even to heal.
Sometimes we need grown-up words for the things we carry. And sometimes we need the simplicity and safety of a children’s story to reach the places words have struggled to touch.
Honeysuckle Gold is a beautiful reminder that a small story can hold something very big.
